Dental Continuing Education Course: Stabilisation of the patched dentition
Workshop: Stabilisation of the patched dentition
The aged or compromised dentition is becoming increasingly relevant to our daily business and often we are placed in the dilemma of whether to restore or extract. The extraction is the quick option, however more and more patients are wanting to save their teeth. Restorations may be costly and time consuming if you take the route of endodontics, inlays, crowns and bridges or implants. Alternatively the well constructed direct restoration can be just as clinically effective, time efficient as well as being cost effective.
This course is in two parts. The morning lecture programme will provide the science behind the decision making process covering off on tooth anatomy and related occlusion, materials and what to choose and why. Most of all, tips and techniques will be presented on how to achieve longevity for your restoration. The presentation is around both anterior and posterior restorations.
The afternoon session is for those clinicians who want hands on activities and discussions on how to achieve the theory. There will be demonstrations and hands on activity for restoring the function of the anterior teeth while maximizing the aesthetics with the multi layering technique. There is an opportunity to delve into the techniques for posterior restorations gaining expertise in restoring the occlusion.
At the completion of the course participants will:
• Be able to restore the occlusion to functions both anteriorly and posteriorly
• Be able to relate the occlusion and tooth anatomy with respect to restoring the functioning dentition
• Know how to evaluate and use appropriate materials for direct restorations
• Know how to build up the anterior tooth with composite and not compromise
• Learn how to achieve longevity from a restoration with finishing and polishing techniques
• Be able to apply occlusal anatomy within the restoration of a posterior restoration to maximise function
• Be able to understand the options and rationale for retention techniques of dental material
• Be able to critically evaluate their clinical work
